Appointment of Judge Courtney C. Abril

Nevada County Superior Court is pleased to announce the Governor’s appointment of Courtney C. Abril, to fill the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Linda Sloven. Ms. Abril will begin her service on May 24, 2024 and will be assigned to the Nevada City branch courthouse.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Abril was a sole practitioner serving as court appointed counsel. She also served in several roles at the Yuba County Counsel’s Office from 2016 to 2019, including Chief Deputy County Counsel and County Counsel. She served as an Attorney in the Nevada County Public Defender’s Office from 2006 to 2016 and as a Legal Research Assistant in the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office from 2005 to 2006. Ms. Abril earned a Juris Doctor degree from Gonzaga University School of Law.

On the appointment of Ms. Abril, the Presiding Judge of the Nevada County Superior Court, Honorable S. Robert Tice-Raskin comments “We are delighted to welcome Ms. Abril to the court and are confident that she will serve the court and community with distinction.”

Ms. Abril comments “I am truly honored by this appointment and look forward to serving this wonderful community where my family and I have planted roots for many years. I will serve the residents of Nevada County with integrity and will work diligently towards fairness and justice every day that I am fortunate to be a part of this Court.”

The Judges and staff of the court are pleased to welcome Judge Appointee Abril to the Nevada County Superior Court and look forward to working with her.
